I don't favour restaurant techniques in the home kitchen. I favour well done homemade cooking.

I also don't favour gratuitous presentation that, for example, separates components that should be together.

Aside from "family style" plates, everything on the plate should tie together, not simply be slapped together. Usually they have an ingredient in common to harmonize them. Items plated on top of each other should be clearly meant to be eaten together, otherwise plate them beside each other.
