Sopapillas

Ingredients

  • dough for flour tortillas
  • oil for frying
  • cinnamon sugar

Steps

  1. Prepare dough for flour tortillas.
  2. Add enough oil to a pan or fryer to cover the sopapillas when melted (about 5 cm deep). Heat to 370 °F.
  3. Divide dough into 2 balls and roll 3 mm thick, then cut each into 8 wedges. Or roll entire dough into a sheet 3 mm thick and cut into 12 cm squares.
  4. Deep fry each sopapilla in the oil, a few at a time. They should puff up. When first side has browned, after 2 minutes, flip and brown other side, another 2 minutes.
  5. Remove from oil and place on a plate lined with a paper towel. Repeat with each triangle.
  6. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar while warm.

Serve warm with honey.
