- 1 cup milk, scalded
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 5 tbs butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tbs yeast
- 1/4 cup water, lukewarm
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 cups streusel
- Mix the milk, sugar, butter, and salt in a large bowl and let cool until lukewarm.
- Stir the yeast into the warm water and let dissolve 5 minutes.
- Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and flour to the milk and beat well.
- Cover and set aside to rise until double in bulk, about 2 hours.
- Stir down the dough and beat thoroughly. Spread about half of it in a greased 9-inch tube pan. Sprinkle with about 2/3 of the streusel, then cover with the remaining dough. Stir slighly to distribute the streusel in streaks through the cake, but don't over mix.
- Sprinkle the remaining streusel over the top of the cake, set aside to raise until double again, about 1 hour.
- Bake at 350 °FF for about 45 minutes, until brown and done inside. Cool on a rack.
